Mr. Feely's Homepage

Mr. Feely grew up in Portland and holds BM and MA degrees in Music and Education from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, and an elementary classroom endorsement from Western Oregon State University. After college he toured across the country for two years as a Music Director for the Miss Teen America pageants, arranging and conducting music for pageants in seven western states as well as Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island. A frequent recitalist, he has performed for regional and national conventions of the American Guild of Organists, The Organ Historical Society and The American Theatre Organ Society and recently in Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, and Chicago. In 2015 he was featured as a soloist at concerts with The Portland Chamber Orchestra and the Walla Walla Symphony Orchestra.

For six years Don served as co-editor of the Journal of the American Theatre Organ, and currently serves as the website editor for that organization in addition to regularly contributing articles for the publication. He is a regular contributor to the Historical Organist Journal and the Theatre History Archives in Print, specializing in historical research.
As a choral composer, he has more than 20 published works that are performed all over the world. He was a featured organist at the Organ Grinder Restaurant in Portland for over 10 years, performing there on the mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ. He has three recordings to his credit, including popular and sacred music and is the Director of Music at a church in Southwest Portland. Don has taught in the Lake Oswego, North
Clackamas and Oregon City School Districts, and currently teaches band, choir, and drama in the Canby School District. He moved to Canby with his wife, Heidi, so their four children could attend Canby schools.

In addition to music, he has always been involved in drama. While in high school he interned with The Production Company in Portland, where he got to perform and work backstage at the Pine Street Theater and The Eastside Performance Center. For three years he directed the Canby High School theatre productions, and has served as Artistic Director for Canby Community Theater since 1999, producing their annual summer musical.

While he enjoys teaching, there are some days when he wishes he had gone into horticulture or veterinary medicine.  But to help maintain a positive attitude he always remembers this saying:

"Never try to teach a pig to sing;
  It wastes your time and annoys the pig!"
